Third place for Fischi in Urban DH

R Raymon downhill supreme Johannes Fischbach put it all on the line at the legendary Red Bull Valparaiso urban race in South America to take third overall. Fighting for victory the whole way down the super technical and risky street course, Johannes completed his run just three tenths of a second short of the overall win.

A race he won in 2016, the Red Bull Valparaiso is world famous for competitors racing down its narrow staircases, over manmade ramps and even through people’s houses. Now entering its 18th edition, Fischbach arrived at the iconic urban downhill race with high spirits and hopeful of delivering a strong result.

From the off, Fischi was quick to dial himself into the event, mastering each obstacle with technical ease. Placing second fastest in qualification, his goal was clear – go all-out to try and claim his second Red Bull Valparaiso win.

Come the arrival of his all-important race run, Fischi exited the starting hut fully attacking the course. Looking fast, smooth, and confident, he crossed the finish line in contention for victory, but agonisingly placed third, just three tenths of a second short of winning.

Johannes Fischbach: “The Red Bull Valparaiso is always an awesome race and this year didn’t disappoint. Throughout training I felt comfortable with the course and was quick to confidently dial all the obstacles in, especially the crucial staircases. With second in qualification, I knew I could be a contender and I gave it everything I had. From leaving the start hut to crossing the finish line I was fully committed, you have got to be on a course like this. To come so close to winning is tough. There was nothing between the top three guys, but I’m happy with the podium!”

Fischi now begins his preparations for the opening round of the 2022 UCI Downhill World Cup in Lourdes, France on March 26/27.
